Portrait of a beautiful girl. Pencil. Drawn from a black-and-white photograph.

Portrait of my father when he was young. Drawn from an old black-and-white photograph. The values were not clearly seen because of bright flash. There are a few issues with the portrait - most noticeable is the eyes are not aligned on the same plane/line.

I corrected the last drawing - lengthened the arm... The horse figure was made 3D-ish too.

About five hours (and two days) later my second portrait is finished - "Boy playing chess". There's a few bits that could do with a better finish - the shirt (looks too flat, not enough wrinkles), the shading on the face... And being really picky - the horse chess figure near the board is not enough 3-D... And last but not least - proportion, proportion, proportion... The right arm looks too small compared to the left. Now... Where is my eraser?!

My first ever "independent" portrait - based on an old black-and-white photograph of my mother in her younger days. I have used 2H, HB, and 2B pencils, and a rubber eraser. It came out very close, as confirmed by the subject herself :)

Oh Dear... The blogging phenomenon finally got through to me too!
I started this blog to track the drawing learning curve of mine... And here it is my first ever portrait - made possible thanks to a great drawing site www.drawspace.com
